Friends from Scandinavia in Lviv

Friends from Scandinavia in Lviv

We were glad to host our friends from Scandinavia in Lviv!

On October 20, YMCA Lviv had the pleasure of welcoming friends from Norway, Sweden and Finland from their YMCA branches, which in those regions are called Norges KFUK-KFUM, KFUM Sverige, Suomen YMCA.

First of all, we thank them for their support, because every visit of foreign guests is a reminder for us that Ukraine is not left alone in the war with the horde.

First of all, in Lviv, we visited the grave of the singer and warrior Vasyl Slipak, because his figure opens up an understanding of what Ukrainians are fighting for for every thinking person from any country in the world. We also talked about the Opera-Myth Ukraine – Terra Incognita, dedicated to Vasyl, which we, YMCA Lviv, created together with talented Ukrainian artists and the Wassyl Slipak Foundation.

Then we bowed to our fallen at the Lychakiv Military Cemetery. Because it is important for us that they do not remain statistical units from news about a distant country.

We want our foreign friends to remember that somewhere in Ukraine there were people who died, protecting their loved ones and with them the values of freedom, which it is customary to talk about as basic for Europe.

We walked through the centre of ancient Lviv, the same European city as hundreds of others but now with the constant threat of rocket fire.

We wove a camouflage net for our defenders with Lviv volunteers (women, girls, grandmothers).

Of course, they tasted Galician cuisine and Lviv coffee.

Also, we talked a lot. We talked about the needs of the military and civilians, about how our public organizations are turning into volunteer centres, hubs and warehouses, and people of culture – into soldiers and volunteers. We talked about our plans for the future with the belief that it will be here and will be in the whole world, devoid of crazy dictators and greedy empires.

We thank the representatives of YMCA Ukraine, YMCA Carpathians, YMCA Mykolaiv, YMCA Lutsk, YMCA Poltava and YMCA Zdolbuniv, who were with us that day.

Let’s stay strong! Only together we can withstand and win!
